Perry County Emergency Management Director

JOB OPPORTUNITY NOTICE

POSTING DATE: August 25, 2025

START DATE: Within 30 days of Hire

POSITION: Emergency Management Director and/or County Fire Coordinator, Perry County, Mississippi

LOCATION: New Augusta, Mississippi

REPORTS TO: Perry County, Mississippi Board of Supervisors

SALARY: Dependent on Experience and Funding

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and develop the County’s emergency management planning and response assets and resources
  • Meet with County, Town, Law Enforcement and other necessary officials on a regular basis to ensure understanding and cooperation of the county’s emergency management effort
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal agencies and regulations
  • Grants: research, prepare applications for board approval and administer grants for the related functions of the office
  • Other duties as assigned by the board of supervisors
  • As the County Fire Coordinator, meet regularly with all fire departments and coordinate and improve the county’s fire protection efforts

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

The board may consider assigning additional responsibilities for this position, including Flood Plain Permit Manager, 911 Mapping/Addressing and Homeland Security.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

  • Communication skills of sufficient nature in reading and writing
  • Emergency Management experience of at least one year is preferred
  • Physical capacity to perform the essential functions of the job
  • Interpersonal skills for team building and motivation of unrelated organizations
  • Current National Incident Management System certification
  • Member in good standing of a county volunteer fire department at the time job duties begin
